DESCRIPTION:FOREST EUROPE develops common strategies at the pan-European level for its 46 signatories on how to protect and sustainably manage their forests (www.foresteurope.org). The idea of this High-Level Policy Dialogue (HLPD) 2023 is based on the Bratislava Ministerial Declaration 2021 as well as the Forest Europe Work Programme priorities and follows guidance provided by the General Coordinating Committee (GCC) to react to emerging issues promptly. \nThe current scenario we are facing at the national and international forestry level leads to a critical debate: How can Sustainable Forest Management maintain and enhance resilience in your forest\, considering social\, economic\, and environmental factors? \nThis event will be hosted by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture in Berlin having a hybrid character. FOREST EUROPE high-level policymakers responsible for forests and forestry and high-level representatives from FOREST EUROPE observer organizations and other interested stakeholders will be invited to this meeting. The interested public can join this event in Berlin or online. \nThe host of this event is the German Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture\, Mr. Cem Özdemir. Our panel discussions in Berlin will bring together ministers and other high-level policymakers with representatives of environmental organizations\, forest practitioners\, researchers\, youth\, and landowners to provide a space promoting shared understanding and synergies in the pan-European region and beyond. \nThe event will have two consecutive panel discussions where participants can interact directly with high-level speakers during the debate. To set the scene\, renowned researchers will present their latest findings. \nCheck our High-Level Talks website to stay updated. Results will be directly used to develop a policy brief including recommendations for policy makers. During the event participants will have the chance to become part of a network\, establish strong partnerships across pan-Europe to prevent and better control disturbances caused by storm events. \nThe workshop is part of FOREST EUROPEs work towards the implementation of a pan-European forest risk knowledge facility (FoRISK) to support forests adaptation to changing climatic and site conditions as well as to enhance the resilience and mitigation potential of forests at a pan-European level. \n\nLoading… URL:https://foresteurope.org/event/joint-workshop-living-with-storms-towards-resilience-and-adaptation-to-forest-disturbances/ LOCATION:Forest Research Institute Baden-Württemberg\, Germany\, Wonnhaldestraße 4\, Freiburg\, Baden-Wüttenberg\, 79100\, Germany CATEGORIES:forest risk ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://foresteurope.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/SM-card-Storm-workshop.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20230530 DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20230602 DTSTAMP:20240923T091611 CREATED:20230308T105600Z LAST-MODIFIED:20230626T123700Z UID:23074-1685404800-1685663999@foresteurope.org SUMMARY:Joint Workshop: Managing Biotic Threats in Forests - Lessons Learned from Bark Beetle Calamities DESCRIPTION:czcExtreme heat events and droughts have intensified due to climate change\, and bark beetle outbreaks have reached unprecedented levels in conifer forests challenging traditional management approaches in production forests and leading to increasing public and political awareness. The need for coordinated international actions and a more comprehensive management framework also recognizing the social dimension of forest disturbances is growing. \nTherefore\, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic and FOREST EUROPE are organizing a joint workshop in order to exchange knowledge on the best practices and allow for the adoption and transfer of innovative solutions while establishing cooperation and strong partnerships across pan-Europe to prevent and better control biotic threats such as bark beetle outbreaks. \nThe workshop is part of FOREST EUROPE’s work towards the implementation of a pan-European Forest Risk Knowledge Facility (FoRISK) to support forest’s adaptation to changing climatic and site conditions as well as to enhance the resilience and mitigation potential of forests at a pan-European level. \nCheck here the programme of the workshop. \n\nPreliminary Agenda \nThis joint workshop is scheduled to take place from May 30 to June 1 2023 in Breznice\, Czech Republic\, and will be hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic. \n30 May 2023\n–  Arrival of Participants \n–  Transfer to the venue from Prague airport/city center \n–  Small refreshment \n–  Seminar and discussion \n–  Welcome dinner \n31 May 2023\n–  Seminar and discussion \n–  Lunch \n–  Excursion \n–  Dinner \n01 June 2023\n–  Wrap up session \n–  Lunch \n–  Transfer to Prague Airport with an estimated arrival at 14:30. DESCRIPTION:Human life on Earth can only be sustained with the survival and proper functioning of natural systems\, especially forests. However\, large-scale deforestation and forest degradation takes place in many countries in the world. In other parts of the World\, the unstoppable process of urbanization increasingly leads to the physical and mental separation of people from nature. More and more this is resulting in total refusal of active measures in forests aiming at wood production. In political decision-making and economic processes\, you barely find representatives of forest related sciences. While we are exceeding the limits of our planet’s carrying capacity\, awareness of that wicked problem is limited and nature-based solutions are underrepresented in the political discussions on problem solving. What can professionals of higher forestry education and further education do against the unfavourable processes described here? How can the gap be bridged between the knowledge background and perceptions of forest scientists\, political decision makers and lay men? And how can this be used to adapt the contents of teaching and further education in forest and nature related disciplines? \nThese questions will be addressed in the SILVA Network Annual Conference\, held at the University of Sopron on April\, 11 – 13th 2023. The program includes inspiring presentations and a full-day excursion into the educational forests of Sopron University and the nearby national park. \nIt pays to be quick: An early bird rate applies until February 21st. Please also keep an eye at the deadline for abstract submission if you are interested to present. \nPlease go to the SILVA Network website to register.
